How Does NeoGraft Work?

FDA-cleared for hair restoration, NeoGraft is a device used for Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant surgery in a two-step process: Harvesting and placement. You are likely to need two to three days of recovery before you return to work. You may feel numb or sore in the transplanted areas after the procedure, and your doctor may recommend taking a hair loss drug like finasteride—for men only—and using a product like Rogaine after your NeoGraft hair replacement surgery if you are genetically predisposed to male-pattern baldness. The results of NeoGraft hair transplant surgery can be a full head of hair if you are a good candidate for the procedure.

Your NeoGraft Experience

Step One: Harvesting

You may have to shave the donor area before the NeoGraft hair replacement surgery. The first step in the hair transplant is to use the NeoGraft device to harvest individual hair follicles from the donor area at the back of the scalp. You will be asked to lie face down for two to four hours as the doctor uses the NeoGraft handheld device to extract the follicles. If you have a large number of follicles to be extracted, the doctor may recommend coming in for two separate sessions.

Step Two: Placement

The second step in your hair replacement is to place the harvested follicles into tiny incisions in areas with thinning hair. You will sit upright for this part of the procedure. The doctor will numb both the harvest area and the placement area with a local anesthetic before proceeding. When the hair transplant is completed, all surgical areas will be covered with bandages, and you’ll be able to return to your normal routine. We’ll give you clear aftercare instructions to help ensure your ideal results.

Recovery After NeoGraft

If you are like most patients, you will need two to three days of recovery before resuming your activities. You may feel numb or sore in the transplanted areas, and you may suffer from headaches for a few days after the procedure. The donor area will heal in less than a week, at which time your transplanted hair will be secure in your scalp.

You will be instructed to avoid strenuous activity for 10 days, but you will be encouraged to enjoy light activity, such as walking, after three days. Your newly grafted hair will stay in place for several weeks before shedding, which is a normal part of the hair transplant. New hair growth from the follicles will start in three to four months.
