Your Ideal Bust with Breast Reduction

The breast reduction procedure involves the surgical removal of excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to decrease the overall size of the breasts and improve their shape. Breast reduction incisions are usually located around each areola, vertically down the bottom of the breasts, and/or along each breast fold. The chest muscles are not affected by breast reduction surgery, so the procedure may have less significant downtime.

Your procedure will be tailored to your body type and your personal cosmetic goals, and you’ll work closely with Dr. Young Cho or Dr. Mihail Climov to create a treatment plan that sees you enjoying your ideal outcome. Dr. Cho’s and Dr. Climov's Surgical Approach to Breast Reduction

There are different breast reduction procedures from which Dr. Cho and Dr. Climov can choose, and they will perform a physical examination that enables them to customize your surgery in a way that fits your needs and meets your goals.

The most common techniques in breast reduction involve a keyhole or anchor-shaped incision, which allows Dr. Cho or Dr. Climov to remove tissue, reduce your breast size, and generally create a more youthful breast position.

Your Breast Reduction Consultation Exploring Complementary Procedures

Before your breast reduction surgery, you will meet with Dr. Cho or Dr. Climov, and they will review your medical history to make sure you are healthy enough for this procedure. They will work with you to develop a customized surgical approach that is tailored to your goals and your body type.

You will be given pre-operative instructions, including restrictions for a week or two prior to surgery, such as avoiding alcohol, tobacco products, certain supplements, and medications that can thin the blood.

Some people have liposuction performed along with a breast reduction. Dr. Cho and Dr. Climov will be sure to help you explore the various ways we can offer you an integrated approach with combined procedures to create truly comprehensive results.

The Breast Reduction Procedure

During your breast reduction procedure, excess breast tissue, fat, and skin will be removed to reduce the size of your breasts and reshape them for a more youthful and proportioned appearance.

Breast reduction incisions are usually located around each areola, running vertically down the bottom of the breasts and/or along each breast fold. The size and number of incisions depend on the amount of breast tissue, fat, and skin that must be removed.

The doctor may place small drainage tubes under each of your arms to help remove excess blood and fluids. The tubes will be removed 24 to 48 hours after surgery. You will be instructed to avoid strenuous activities and lifting heavy objects when you go home.

Recovery and Results after Breast Reduction

You should have a ride home and a little help for at least the first 24 to 48 hours after breast reduction surgery. Dr. Cho and Dr. Climov will encourage you to begin walking and gently moving around within 24 hours after your breast reduction.

You should wear a surgical bra after the breast reduction surgery, and you will be directed to wear loose-fitting clothing. If Dr. Cho or Dr. Climov places small drainage tubes under your arms to remove excess blood and fluids, they will be removed within 24 to 48 hours after surgery.

You will be told to avoid exposing incision sites to the sun so that breast reduction scars do not darken. Most patients resume work and their normal daily routines within a week. You will be asked to avoid strenuous physical exercise and sexual activity for two to three weeks.

Dr. Cho and Dr. Climov will assess your healing progress and tell you when activities may safely be resumed at your follow-up appointments. You’ll get a clear timeline of your recovery process, and we’ll be available to you at all times during your recovery process.
