What is a Mommy Makeover?

A “mommy makeover” is a popular term for a series of plastic surgery procedures designed for women who have experienced childbirth. Mommy makeovers are always individualized for each patient and often include a combination of breast enhancement and body contouring procedures. Dr. Cho provides mommy makeovers for women who have unwanted body changes that occur during pregnancy or after weight fluctuation.

Rediscover Your Youthful Contours With a Mommy Makeover in The Woodlands

Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding change a woman’s body in ways diet and exercise cannot always reverse: loose skin, stretched abdominal muscles, deflated breast volume, and stubborn fat that resists your best efforts. Mommy makeover surgery addresses these changes in a single operation. Dr. Young Cho, a board-certified plastic surgeon at Integrated Aesthetics, combines procedures such as a tummy tuck, breast lift or breast augmentation, and liposuction into one personalized surgical plan with a single recovery period. To find out which combination of procedures fits your goals, schedule your consultation at our Spring or The Woodlands, TX office today.

About the Mommy Makeover

You will meet with Dr. Cho, our board-certified plastic surgeon, to plan the procedures included in your mommy makeover surgery, most often a tummy tuck, breast surgery, and liposuction. Good candidates have a stable body weight and realistic expectations.

It’s best to wait for a mommy makeover in The Woodlands until you do not plan to become pregnant again in the future. You will be instructed to stop smoking at least four weeks prior to surgery, and Dr. Cho will review your medications and supplements. If you suffer from chronic pain and you are on an opioid regimen, you will need to consult with the anesthesiologist before surgery.

What Can I Expect at My Initial Mommy Makeover Consultation in The Woodlands?

Your mommy makeover consultation in The Woodlands and Spring, TX begins with a physical exam. Dr. Cho evaluates your skin quality, abdominal muscle separation, and breast tissue, then recommends the procedures that match your anatomy and your goals, whether that is a tummy tuck, breast surgery, liposuction, or all three. Because a mommy makeover is fully customizable, you and Dr. Cho build the surgical plan together.

Dr. Cho will also review other areas that often change after pregnancy, including the arms, thighs, and back, and explain what each procedure can realistically achieve for your body.

Mommy Makeover: Creating Your Ideal Outcome

Your mommy makeover will combine several surgical procedures in a single session, giving you the ability to avoid multiple recovery periods. The procedure will be customized to your needs and may include a tummy tuck, breast augmentation, a breast lift, and liposuction. You might also include a perineoplasty that will tighten the entrance to the vagina and vaginoplasty to repair and tighten the floor of the vagina. Some people also add a Brazilian butt lift for contour.

The Abdomen

A tummy tuck in The Woodlands, formally called abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and repairs stretched or separated abdominal muscles, a condition called diastasis recti that is common after pregnancy. Dr. Cho may recommend a full abdominoplasty, a mini-tummy tuck with a shorter incision, or minimally invasive skin tightening with BodyTite, depending on your skin quality and the degree of laxity present. Muscle repair is what restores the firm, flat abdominal wall that exercise alone cannot rebuild.

The Breasts

Cosmetic breast surgery is a common part of the mommy makeover. Our Surgeon, Dr. Cho can restore fullness to your breasts or elevate them to a more youthful position with a breast lift or breast augmentation. Breast augmentation restores lost volume with saline or silicone breast implants sized to your frame, while a breast lift removes excess skin and tightens breast tissue to correct sagging and rebuild firmness. Many mommy makeover patients combine both — implants for volume, a lift for position. An internal bra can also be used to support implants once they have been placed. For patients interested in more subtle improvements, a fat transfer procedure may be ideal.

Body Contouring

Dr. Cho uses liposuction to remove localized body fat from the hips, flanks, waist, thighs, arms, back, and neck. Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. It is a body contouring method for sculpting areas of fat that resist diet and exercise, and for safety only a limited amount is removed in one surgery. Fat removed by liposuction can also be purified and transferred to restore volume where pregnancy took it away (fat grafting). For stretch marks and skin laxity, Dr. Cho pairs surgery with tissue remodeling treatments like BodyTite, Profound, Morpheus8, and CO2 laser resurfacing.

Creating an Integrated Approach

Every mommy makeover at Integrated Aesthetics is built around your anatomy, with particular attention to the breasts and abdomen. If breast implants are part of your surgical plan, Dr. Cho helps you choose between saline and silicone implants sized to fit your frame and restore lost breast volume.

Belly button reconstruction is often an important detail of tummy tuck surgery: Dr. Cho repositions the navel so the abdomen looks natural after your mommy makeover, not operated on.

What are the Benefits of a Mommy Makeover in The Woodlands?

  • You undergo anesthesia once for several procedures combined in a single operation.
  • One combined surgery means one recovery period instead of several.
  • Mommy makeover surgery restores the abdomen, breasts, and waistline toward their pre-pregnancy shape.
  • Dr. Cho may be able to repair related medical issues during surgery, such as hernias, urinary incontinence, and back pain caused by separated abdominal muscles.

What is Recovery Like After a Mommy Makeover?

Most mommy makeover patients return to light daily activities within two weeks. Dr. Cho prescribes pain medication for the first days at home, and most patients wear a compression garment to control swelling and support the healing abdomen.

Avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for six weeks. Swelling and bruising begin to subside within one to three weeks, and the final results of your mommy makeover surgery emerge over about six months as swelling fully resolves and scars fade.

Dr. Cho schedules follow-up visits the day after surgery, during the first two weeks, and at the six-week mark to monitor healing at each surgical site, from your abdominoplasty incision to any breast implants. If surgical drains are placed, they typically remain for one to two weeks.

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need two to four weeks of downtime and up to three months for full mommy makeover recovery.
  • Tummy tuck and breast surgery leave scars, though Dr. Cho typically places incisions where clothing can conceal them, and scars fade over six to twelve months.
  • Future weight gain or another pregnancy can compromise the results of your mommy makeover surgery.

Are there any risks?

The procedures included in a mommy makeover are considered safe when performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, but every surgery carries risks, including infection, bleeding, and DVT blood clots. Dr. Cho reviews your health history at your consultation and follows you closely after surgery to reduce these surgical risks.

What do your patients say after this procedure?

Most patients tell us the hardest part is patience during the first two weeks of recovery. By the six-week mark, many patients find their new body contour becoming visible as swelling resolves. Individual results vary.

How will you ensure my safety?

Dr. Cho performs mommy makeover surgery under general anesthesia or IV sedation, and our team monitors you closely after surgery for signs of infection or wound-healing issues, helps you manage discomfort, and supports you through early recovery. Because a mommy makeover combines procedures into a single operation, you undergo anesthesia once rather than several times.

What is required for maximum results in a mommy makeover?

Staying close to your ideal body weight lets your board-certified plastic surgeon in The Woodlands optimize your mommy makeover results, and a healthy balance of diet and exercise helps you maintain those results after surgery.

A consultation can help further assess whether the mommy makeover procedure can include additional body parts such as the arms, back or thighs. Most typically the procedure focuses on the breast and abdomen, but you may be able to enhance your results by addressing other areas of concern whether they are done at the same time or at a separate stage. Additionally, it can be addressed in a non-surgical fashion.

One of the most important decisions is finding a plastic surgeon that is right for you. I would look for a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area and really focus on becoming educated on what your options are to achieve the best results during your consultation.

What is recovery like after a mommy makeover?

Here is Dr. Cho’s general guide to mommy makeover recovery:

  • • Week 1: Discomfort and tightness decrease each day. Swelling drops significantly after one week, and most patients return to work in some capacity.
  • • Week 2: Little narcotic pain medication needed. Swelling and tightness continue to improve.
  • • Weeks 3–6: Occasional Tylenol or Ibuprofen for intermittent discomfort. Swelling resolves, though tightness may linger as breast implants settle into final position over the following months.

Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity for six weeks, then resume normal exercise as your body allows. For a full day-by-day breakdown, read our guide to mommy makeover recovery.

Do you have to be a certain age for a Mommy Makeover?

Age alone does not determine whether you are a candidate for plastic surgery. If you are healthy and do not have a complicated medical history, you can certainly consider mommy makeover surgery. You may need medical clearance from your primary care physician or cardiologist to confirm you are safe to undergo general anesthesia. Visit with a board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate your options and build a surgical plan that fits your goals.

Who is a good candidate for a mommy makeover?

Good mommy makeover candidates are women who have finished having children, are done breastfeeding, and have maintained a stable weight for several months. Candidates should be in good overall health and hold realistic expectations for surgery. Because future pregnancy or major weight change can alter your results, Dr. Cho recommends waiting until your family is complete.

How much does a mommy makeover cost?

Mommy makeover surgery at Integrated Aesthetics starts at $17,000, with final pricing depending on which procedures your surgical plan includes. A tummy tuck with breast augmentation costs less than a plan that adds liposuction or a breast lift. Your consultation with Dr. Cho costs $175, and that fee is applied to your procedure total if you decide to move forward. Quoted procedure pricing does not include operating room fees or anesthesia fees. Integrated Aesthetics also offers financing through three lenders, with a payment calculator to estimate monthly costs.
