Your Rhinoplasty Surgery

In general, rhinoplasty is performed under sedation or general anesthesia and takes about one to three hours to complete. Some patients opt for local anesthesia for their procedure, and we’ll be sure to discuss this option with you prior to the date of your surgery. According to the details of your treatment plan, Dr. Cho will either perform a cartilage graft, nasal tip alterations, a dorsal hump removal, or a nasal bone osteotomy (fracturing part of the bone) to create your expected results.

Rhinoplasty is a highly customizable procedure, so the particulars of your surgery will vary according to the complexity of your goals and the unique nature of your facial anatomy. During your consultation, Dr. Cho will help you decide which surgical technique is right for you, advising you with his extensive procedural experience and commitment to aesthetic excellence. You’ll pick between the open rhinoplasty technique and the closed rhinoplasty technique, and Dr. Cho will explain the benefits of each during your consultation.

Open Rhinoplasty

With the open rhinoplasty technique, Dr. Cho will make a small incision under your nose, on the inside of your nostrils. This will give him the access he needs to make the necessary adjustments that will create your ideal results.

Closed Rhinoplasty

When the closed rhinoplasty technique is employed, incisions are made on the inside of your nose. Both approaches are appropriate for a cartilage graft, nasal tip alterations, dorsal hump removal, or a nasal bone osteotomy (the removal of part of the bone).

The Rhinoplasty Recovery Experience

When your rhinoplasty is complete, Dr. Cho will secure place a cast or splint over your nose and may also place one inside your nose, as well. These will be removed the following week, and you can expect your sutures to dissolve on their own or be removed after the first week.

You’ll experience bruising, swelling, and a feeling that your nose is clogged after rhinoplasty. Patients are provided prescription medication for discomfort, but cool compresses and the right diet may also help to control swelling.

You can expect to return to work in about one to two weeks, and we’ll be sure to provide you with detailed aftercare instructions. Follow-up appointments will be set, and our team will be available to you at every step of your recovery process so you can enjoy total peace of mind.

The Five Rs of Facial Rejuvenation

Our signature approach to full facial rejuvenation, coined the “The 5Rs to Facial Rejuvenation,” is designed to globally address the signs of aging and achieve long-lasting results. Each R works together to restore different layers of the face using a combination of surgical and non-surgical procedures. This advanced method includes relaxing muscles, replenishing lost volume, restoring the skin, repositioning the tissues, and reducing facial volume.

R1 – Relax Muscles

We help to relax the muscles and smooth out the appearance of wrinkles by addressing the forehead, crow’s feet, frown lines, masseter lines, chin, and lip lines with muscle relaxer treatments like Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Daxxi. Muscle relaxers also help to reduce migraines, excessive sweating ,and gummy smiles.

R2 – Replenish Lost Volume

Whether you have volume loss from weight loss or due to the aging process, we can help replenish the volume and contour the face with fillers like Juvéderm, Restylane, RHA, Sculptra, or Radiesse. When combining relaxation of the muscles (R1) with replenishing lost volume (R2) it can make a tremendous difference. We can enhance your results when using R2 in combination with volume reduction techniques (R5), repositioning of the tissue (R4), and restoring the skin (R3).

R3 – Restore the Skin

At Integrated Aesthetics, we offer a robust portfolio of skin resurfacing and tightening devices to help improve the texture, health, and appearance of your skin. Depending on whether the focus is improving discoloration, pore size, fine lines, or mild skin laxity, we offer different options that target different skin concerns.

R4 – Reposition the Tissue

As we get older, our tissues start to sag down. Anything we can do to reposition the tissue can help give you a more lifted appearance. Surgically, we can do a facelift (mini, full, or extended) or neck lift. On the minimally invasive side, we can use threads like Silhouette InstaLift, PDO threads, or MyEllevate to internally lift and reposition the tissues.

R5 – Reduce Facial Volume

Sometimes, instead of having volume lost as we age, we develop excess fullness. It can be fullness under our chin (double chin) or in the jowl area. If we reduce the fullness in the double chin region, it’s also going to help define the transition from the lower face to the neck. This can be done with procedures that either dissolve the fat (Kybella), tighten or melt the fatty tissue (AccuTite), remove the fat (Liposuction), or even freeze the fat (CoolSculpting).

Rhinoplasty FAQ

Can I combine my nose surgery with other procedures?

What else should I know about rhinoplasty?

Can I combine my nose surgery with other procedures?

Rhinoplasty can be (and is often) combined with septoplasty to correct a deviated septum. By correcting the position of the wall between your nasal passages, we can significantly improve your ability to breathe clearly. Dr. Cho can perform both surgeries at the same time with one anesthetic and one recovery.

Additionally, rhinoplasty is often combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures to create comprehensive results. To learn more, take a look at this page that details our unique and integrated approach to facial rejuvenation. You can also enjoy comprehensive results by combining your nose job surgery with a facelift, or with a number of injectable treatments like wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers.

Do you offer any alternative procedures?

A temporary non-surgical or liquid nose job is a minimally invasive procedure that uses hyaluronic acid-based injectables. These dermal fillers can create symmetry, camouflage a bumpy nose, and build up the tip of your nose if you feel that it is too weak. These injectable treatments are quick and effective and don’t involve any significant downtime. Even better, they can sometimes offer you a nice preview of what surgery can accomplish or serve as an ongoing alternative to surgery.

What else should I know about rhinoplasty?

  • Insurance will not cover the surgery unless you have a structural problem.
  • You will probably have bruising and swelling for the first two weeks.
  • You may experience nausea, vomiting, and a sore throat.
  • It can take a year to see your final results.
  • Rhinoplasty is considered a very safe procedure when it is performed by an experienced surgeon.
  • There is a risk of nasal obstruction or a tear in the nasal septum lining, which can lead to bleeding.
